December 21st, 2008 - results of the Finale.
And the winner is... Barry Beavis, our english friend, one of the most regular participant of the 18xx belgian championship and Geert Lagrou Trophy during these last years. He deserves it and now he has won it. After his title of World Championship of 1830 acquired in USA during the late 90's, now he conquered one of the most coveted titles in the (small) world of our beloved hobby...

Here are the complete results.

As I announced last time, I give up the GLT. Not because of the people but rather for my lack of interest in organising. So it is also my last edito on this website.

Winners were:

  • 2004: Frédéric Taton
  • 2005: Patrick Fautré
  • 2006: Geert Lagrou (†)
  • 2007: Markus Welbourne
  • 2008: Barry Beavis

That's all folks.

Please visit the updated Liège tournament page for details of the results. I also posted the general ranking after the 5 tournaments on the GLT 2008 ranking page.

I added updated infos about the Finale.

I'm sorry to announce that I'm going to give up the organisation of GLT for 2009. I'm especially sorry because of Geert's memory. However I simply haven't the time and taste anymore to set up a competition. I prefer to play "just for fun". If anyone of you feel the envy to keep it alive, I'd be very pleased to allow him/her to use the "GLT" name and I'll share my excel sheet with him/her.

I also want to thank all the friends from UK, USA, Canada, Italy, Germany, France and Belgium who have attended one, several or (almost) all the tournaments during these last five years. It has been a pleasure to meet and play with every one of you. I hope that you will still come in Liège at our Game Con (IRV) to play 18xx and other games with us, and that the "lack of competition" will not keep you away from here.

See you there.

April 24th, 2008 - Infos about Geert Lagrou Trophy 2008

I've finally found the time and energy to update the website and provide the dates of the Geert Lagrou Trophy 2008. There are still a lot of details I don't know yet or haven't decided yet, for instance which games will be played or some dates to confirm. I'm missing Geert for his dynamism and organisor skills.

Brugge tournament results are available.

All pages have been updated because I still use "good old HTML" webpages, purely static and with no frame! Hence, if I change the left margin to adapt the content menu, I've to change it in each and every single webpages. Fortunately, I only have 20+ pages.

This year, Gent (gameclub Spellement) will replace the Brussels tournament. It's all about players, so please do not see any regionalist reasons in this decision. And for me Gent is farther that Brussels.

Sorry for my english buddies, but Geert Lagrou Trophy is a belgian organisation and so no round in UK this year. However I know that you have plenty of Cons during which you have the opportunity to play 18xx so, why not organising a UK championship ala Geert Lagrou Trophy. Maybe some belgian players could decide to cross the Channel in order to steal the UK cup... :-)

December 30th, 2007 - results of the Finale of the Geert Lagrou Trophy 2007
And the winner is... Markus Welbourne.
After 3 years of participation of english friends, they have finally won the cup and brought it back to England. ;-)
I must now consider to include a round in England in 2008... who knows.
About Geert Lagrou Trophy 2008 edition, I'm starting to organise it and will upload a program soon, even though it is likely to be uncomplete. Bart Joris from the gameclub Spellement (Gent) proposes to host a round at his gameclub. I don't want to have 6 rounds (+ the finale) so I have to think of it twice but I think that the gameroom of the Brussels round, although Alpa people are very friendly and welcoming, is not very well suited. So maybe Gent will replace Brussels.
Please visit the updated Finale tournament page for details of the results.

November 6th, 2007 - results of Liège tournament
Please visit the updated Liège tournament page for details of the results. I also updated the general ranking after the 5 tournaments in the Ranking page.

Please visit the updated Waregem tournament page for details of the results. I also updated the general ranking after the 4 first tournaments in the Ranking page.

September 08th, 2007 - Geert Lagrou

Life is unpredictable. Geert Lagrou died friday August 31st, 2007 in a car crash. He was still young, full of life, projects,... it's always too early. Our thoughts and prayers go to his family and especially his two young children, Felix and Helene. Geert, you will always be present in our heart.

After the first shock, the sadness, the revolt, it's time to go forward, as Geert would probably have wished:

  • First, we continue the championship.
  • Second, we rename the championship as the "Geert Lagrou trophy".

Due to 18IR production delays, I've decided to change the game which will be played in Waregem. We will play 1824.

April 26th, 2007 - results of Brugge tournament.
Please visit the updated Brugge tournament page for details of the results. As soon as I get pictures from David, I'll post some of them to give an idea of the atmosphere. All in all, it was a very enjoyable 18xx day.

April 12th, 2007 - correction about the location of Brugge tournament.
If you plan to attend the Brugge tournament, it will take place in Zedelgem instead of Veldegem. I also added the information about the "complete 18xx WE" during which the tournament will take place. Please visit the updated Brugge tournament page for details. The rest remains the same.

April 10th, 2007 - new pages about Brussels, Waregem and Liège tournaments, as well as the Finale.
Just added the infos about the 3 last tournaments and the Finale. Some infos are still missing. More to come.
I also added pages for ranking and archives of the previous championships. These page are still "under construction", but I wanted to give the spinal tap to my website.

April 3rd, 2007 - New webpage
Hello. I've decided to make my new webpage lighter and I'll only write in english, for sake of simplicity, because the majority of my e-visitors are either french-, dutch-, german- or english-speaking but I'm sure that most of them can read english.

I've also decided to stay focused on 18xx in Belgium, and particularly the 18xx Belgium championship, that Geert and me organise once again this year for the 4th edition. This webpage will be the place where you'll find infos and reports about the different 18xx tournaments.

I'll also try to maintain up-to-date an 18xx links webpage.
